Reflections
On The Design Process: My design process was neither linear nor constricted by "Waterfall" schedule. It was mostly iterative. It was also helpful by focusing on designing one ofthe most stressful parts of the eCommerce experience - searching for an item. This got me to start producing something, as opposed to getting "analysis-paralysis" in the research and planning phase of the project. On Research: The two-week timeline required me to think "lean" and work on the fly. I relied on my social research background to guide my methodology. For instance, my first step was to take a grounded theory approach in order to understand the client's user demographic. One of the major challenges of this project, especially from the perspective as a researcher, was to understand the validity of my findings. The two weeks for a solo-project was not conducive for making a robust conclusion about the client's users. Rather, the main objective was to quickly get a grasp of the concepts retrieved from the research and to iteratively design a working prototype. It was a good exercise of self-delegating what needed to be done (i.e., research, design, and presenting). |
